Shadowing occurs when part of an object is obscured by the "sight" of the CNC machine. The solutions are very similar to the equivalent problem in scanning. If we can't reorient the object to make the entire surface visable, we segment it into smaller pieces. We also have the option to use 5-axis machining strategies which increase the odds that we can cut out all of the shadows. There are many situations where shadows are unavoidable due to the geometry, or the budget in which case we simply leave them in. The most common scenario is they get removed by hand after it is finished machining.
