Some factors that contribute significantly to the outcome of a machined part is the shape and diameter of the cutting tool. There are two main categories of cutters: Ball nose and Square, plus a third, Bull nose which is a sort of hybrid. We use ball nose cutters for the majority of tasks as they are the most versatile, especially for sculpture. Cutters can range in diameter from a fraction of a millimeter to several inches. The choice of cutter depends very much on the nature of what we are machining and the necessary level of accuracy.
